Kharkiv tractor plant together with Kharkiv National Technical University named after Vasylenko, as well as with Kremenchug Wheel Plant held a three-week test of the traction characteristics of wheeled tractors with 240 and a new 250-horsepower engines, of the new wheel doubling system, as well as of a ballasting system. XTZ-280 tractor with four tracks instead of wheels was tested, as well.
It was determined that the use of doubled wheels together with ballast weight allows applying maximum tractive effort, which a tractor engine with a power of 240-250 hp is capable of. At the same time, the pressure on the soil is less than that of a single-wheeled tractor without ballast weight. This allows retaining the organic part of the soil (its "immune system") as much as possible. Increased traction will improve the tractor`s productivity, using modern agricultural tools. This, in turn, reduces the specific fuel consumption per unit of processed area due to the eliminating the slipping of the wheels.
